Frequently Asked Questions:

1.What does SM do?
-We support projects that help to conserve the Southern Muriqui and is habitat.

2.Why does this rainforest need to be saved? What are the research benefits?
It is the last substantial patch of continuous forest along the Brazilian coast.

3.What countries do you work in, and why?
We fund projects in Brazil only because that is where muriquis are found.

4.How long have you been in existence, and what metrics do you have to measure your accomplishments?
Two years. Our success lies in our future and will be measured by our ability to fulfill our goals. The central one is the funding of a viable field station for researchers in Carlos Botelho.

5.How is SM different from other organizations that save the rainforest?
We are specific, being highly focused on one particular forest and the ecology of its flagship species, the muriqui. This focus has indirect local benefits. Carlos Botelho currently has an intact mammalian fauna.Animals as diverse as jaguars (Panthera onca), ocelots (Leopardus pardalis mitis), mountain lions (Puma concolor capricornensis), giant otters (Pteronura brasiliensis) and purple-headed parrot (Amazona brasiliensis), all of which are threatened will benefit. And the construction of a field station will facilitate their study.

6.Do you help the local community or work with other organizations?
Pro-Muriqui is involved in liaison with local communities. We will support all efforts to foster awareness of the declining populations of Southern Muriquis and their habitats.

7.How is SM funded? And how much do you spend on overhead?
We are 100% funded by donation.
